01  What happens at the first session?

It is possible that you may feel anxiety about attending your first session. The initial session is an easy going session where you and the therapist will be getting to know each other so you can decide if you feel comfortable working with them. At the first session we will discuss what you would like to gain out of the sessions and talk about what type of treatment, how long for and other practical information. This can be another chance to ask questions and find out if you would like to continue seeing this therapist. After the first session there is no pressure to continue if you feel it is not for you.

02  What if I have to cancel a session or am late for a session?

Please contact me via text or phone call to rearrange or cancel a session (via email if more than 48 hours notice). If you’re unable to attend a booked appointment, please let me know with as much notice as possible. Cancelations made within 24 hours of your appointment will incur a 50% fee charge. Non-attendance of your appointment without prior communication will be charged at full rate. Outstanding payments for missed/cancelled sessions must be settled before any further sessions can be attended.

Sessions will end at the agreed time regardless of whether you were late. It is not possible to make up late time at the end of a session.

 03  How long is a counselling/psychotherapy/hypnotherapy session?

Each session will usually last 50 minutes. Dependent on your needs and what you are seeking attending for this may vary.

04  How long is an equine therapy session?

Equine therapy is very much tailored to the individual. Sessions may last an hour or 2 or may last for longer if the client wishes.

05  How many sessions will I have?

The number of sessions can be decided by you and your therapist in the first session and can be as short or long term as you require.

06  How often will the sessions be?

Most therapy sessions are offered on a weekly basis, however biweekly or less often can be an option depending on personal requirements and type of treatment.

07  Does going under hypnosis mean I lose control?

Hypnotherapy is not the same as stage hypnosis or hypnosis you may have seen in films. Hypnotherapy can also not make you do or say anything you do not wish to, you are still under your own control throughout. Hypnotherapy is safe and most clients find it relaxing and enjoyable.

08  What will I need for an equine therapy session?

Depending on the season you may need different things. Please bring clothing appropriate for the weather, for example rain coat, sun hat and sun tan lotion. Please also wear sturdy footwear for working with the horses, for example boots and nothing with an open toe. There is no riding involved but if it makes you feel safer you can bring a riding hat.

09  Does equine therapy involve riding?

No, equine therapy is all done from the ground.

10  Do I have to have horse experience for equine therapy?

No previous experience with horses is necessary.

11  I have my own horses/I have a lot of experience with horses; can I still benefit from equine therapy?

Equine therapy is not based on horse experience. Whether you have a lot or a little horse experience is inconsequential, as it is the emotions, thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are being worked with in sessions, not practical skills. Equine therapy does have a positive effect on horsemanship skills however and people have reported that their relationship with horses has changed for the better after the sessions.

 12  Are sessions confidential?

As per the Ethical Framework, all sessions are confidential unless it is believed that you or someone else is in danger of significant harm. The limitations of confidentiality are discussed in the first session.
